The Golden Disc Awards will take place next month!

On December 16, it was announced that the 36th Annual Golden Disc Awards will take place on January 8, 2022 at the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. The awards ceremony decided to hold the event for only one day instead of the usual two in order to hold the ceremony in a clean concert hall that meets social distancing and quarantine guidelines.

Songs and albums released from November 2020 to mid-November 2021 will be considered for the awards. Songs and albums that were excluded from nomination for last year’s ceremony (because their sales count periods overlapped with closing periods) will be included in this year’s judging.

Applicants for major categories will be selected based on quantitative metrics such as number of streams and album sales. The final winners are chosen at 60% on the basis of sales counted until mid-December 2021 and at 40% on the basis of the scoring of the jury, composed of 50 industry specialists, including journalists specializing in the music, music program production managers, music reviews, music distribution. representatives and the executive committee of the ceremony.

Online voting is not included in the evaluation criteria to prevent major awards such as Grand Prix (Disc Daesang), Bonsang, Best New Artist and many more from becoming popularity awards, while the true Popularity Award will continue to be 100% voice-based.

Nominees for the main categories will be announced on December 8 on the Golden Disc Awards website.

Although the 35th Golden Disc Awards were held without an audience, this upcoming ceremony will later decide whether an audience will be allowed or not depending on the COVID-19 situation.

The 36th Golden Disc Awards will take place on January 8 at 3 p.m. KST and will be broadcast via JTBC, JTBC2 and JTBC4.

Stay tuned for lineup and other updates!
