NEW DELHI: Akhilesh Yadav, leader of the Samajwadi party, said on Monday that he himself would not contest the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, even though he announced that an alliance between his party and the Rashtriya Lok Dal was now final.
Yadav also said that his uncle Shivpal Singh Yadav, who split from the SP to form the Pragatisheel Samajwadi Lohia (PSPL) party will get the “honor” of his party.
“Our alliance with the RLD is final. The sharing of seats must be finalized,” he told PTI in an interview.
The RLD enjoys the support of farmers in Western Uttar Pradesh and is on the same wavelength as the SP on the issue of opposition to the three Central Agricultural Laws.
The SP has already announced an alliance with the Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj (SPSP) party of Om Prakash Rajbhar.
Yadav, who is an Azamgarh SP deputy and considered the CM face of his party, said: “I will not run for the legislative elections myself.”
SP supremo, who was a member of the Legislative Council (MLC) when he was chief minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2012 to 2017, gave no reason for the decision.
However, later Yadav said a final decision on his challenge to the polls would be made by the party.
As to whether he has held talks with AIMIM or Mamata Banerjee’s TMC for state polls, he said there has been no discussion with them.

Regarding poll promises made by the SBSP to provide free electricity and the RLD to provide more than one crore of jobs, Yadav said each party has its platform.
“We all raise problems of farmers, of employment, of ordinary man. Everyone publishes their manifesto. If elected to power, our government will try to accommodate them and prepare a common minimum program,” a he declared.
Asked about the membership of the leaders of Congress and also of a member of the BJP and BSP in his party, he said: “Membership will continue. It shows that people see SP as an alternative to BJP, which only spreads lies and deceives people. with promises. ”
He said citizens of the state have not forgotten the pain and treatment inflicted on them during the Covid peak and added that as many cases as possible have been filed against members of his party during the pandemic for helping people.
“SP workers were on the streets during the peak of Covid. We provided all the help people needed when the government was absent from the action and left people alone to survive. Instead of helping, a Maximum number of cases were filed against MS workers during the pandemic but that did not deter them, ”he said.
Countering the BJP’s “big claims to help people,” Yadav said, “Why hasn’t a single case been filed against BJP workers during Covid. As our workers were looking for help, cases have been filed against them. ”
He was asked about the recent remark by Union Home Secretary Amit Shah on the whereabouts of the SP supremo during the Covid period.
Going after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Yadav accused him of ruining the state.
“By saying that it has kept 90 percent of the promises of its ‘Sankalp Patra’ (manifesto), the BJP is only lying,” he accused.
Regarding the government’s decision to provide students with tablets or smartphones, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister said, “What has he been doing for four and a half years? It shows their intention.
Samajwadi’s supremo said people are facing inflation and young people are unemployed.
People faced hardships during the Covid peak and lost loved ones due to lack of treatment, unavailability of beds and oxygen and now they will think twice before voting for the BJP, he said. -he assures.
“The SP is the only party that can face the BJP and stand up before it in the interest of the people. Farmers are also with the SP. This time there will be a change in the state and the citizens of the state have made up their minds, “he said.
