Book lovers in Peoria were sad to see Barnes & Noble near Arrowhead Mall close a few months ago.
But lovers of literature and everything under the roof of a bookstore don’t have to worry – that Barnes & Noble is moving to the Arrowhead Palms mall, 7401 W. Bell Road, between buybuy BABY and Cost Plus World Market in the former Lifeway Christian Store.
Andy Garbutt, Director of Real Estate and Group Development, Barnes & Noble, said he was very excited to open the new store in Peoria.
It will be more compact than the previous store, at around 10,000 square feet, he said.
“We expect to have a line of books comparable to the old store,” Garbutt said. “The main difference is that we will not have coffee in the store. We chose this given the proximity to other cafes and wishing to keep a full line of toys, games, puzzles and stationery alongside our books.
An official opening date has not yet been set, but store officials are planning to open in mid to late summer.
After nearly 25 years at the old location, Garbutt said the landlord has decided to redevelop the unit for a new tenant.
“We considered several possibilities for relocating our bookstore and chose the Arrowhead Palms shopping center,” he said.
