ELLSWORTH – Football Under the Lights returned to Maine on Friday as Hancock County and statewide teams prepared for their first season games with preseason contests.
Bucksport and Mount Desert Island scored victories on Friday in their respective games against Belfast and Mattanawcook Academy. Elsewhere, Ellsworth / Sumner suffered a loss as Orono moved away from the Eagles in the second half at Ellsworth High School.
In Belfast, defending Class D champion North Bucksport claimed a 24-14 victory over the Lions. The Golden Bucks were leading Belfast 24-8 at halftime before the second ropes limited the home team to a single second-half touchdown.
MDI, trailing Mattanawcook 30-8 at the break in Bar Harbor, won the second-half battle in the second half to come back to a 38-30 victory.
