Plans change, but changing Disney vacation plans isn’t always easy.
Walt Disney World in Florida and Disneyland in California have started requiring park reservations in addition to admission tickets during the pandemic, and the most popular parks can book up quickly during holidays, weekends and other school holidays.
Previously, all customers who wanted to change park reservations had to cancel and start over, a simple process, but one that posed the remote risk of losing a spot altogether on high-demand days.
This is still the case for Disneyland, which operates on a different system, but Disney World guests can now change park reservations without canceling, among other changes.

How do I get reservations at Disney parks?
The first step is to check the availability of the theme park, even before buying tickets.
Once Disney World guests have purchased their tickets, they must immediately make a free park reservation and ensure that everyone in their travel party has reservations as well. As of August 23, reservations can be made for up to 30 people at a time, whether they have annual passes or regular tickets and whether they are staying on or off resort property. Previously, annual pass holders had to manage passes in a separate system.
Disneyland customers can make park reservations when purchasing park tickets, in the same transaction. They can also add Genie+ when purchasing tickets, unlike Disney World where Genie+ must be purchased separately on park visit days.

Can you make Disneyland, Disney World reservations before buying tickets?
No. Customers can purchase tickets without making a park reservation, but not the other way around.
How far in advance do I have to book a Disney park?
The earlier park reservations are made, the better.
Disney World already authorizes their realization until the beginning of 2024.
Reservations at Disneyland can be made 120 days or more in advance.

Can you change park reservations?
Disney World guests can change existing reservation dates, parks and party members without canceling reservations, starting August 23.
Disneyland guests should still cancel existing reservations and then book new ones. It is important to confirm availability before making any changes to avoid the strange chance of being left without a reservation at all if rejected reservations are picked up by others.
What happens if the park you want to visit is not available?
There are several options, all of which involve sacrifice.
- Customers can choose another park to visit that day.
- Customers can keep checking to see if anyone is canceling and availability opens.
- Customers can pay to add the Park Hopper option to their tickets, allowing them to change parks at 2 p.m. at Disney World or 1 p.m. at Disneyland.
- Customers can move their vacation to dates when the park is available.
Will Disney World or Disneyland refund if park reservations are not available?
Tickets are non-refundable at both stations. However, customers may change the start dates of unused and unexpired tickets, depending on park availability. As prices vary by date, customers must pay the difference if the prices for the new dates are higher.

What about Disney hotel reservations?
Disney World recently aligned its online and telephone reservation systems so that guests can only book hotel stays for dates available online. Previously, customers could call to book even further dates.
Hotel reservations for Disneyland and Disney World are currently available through the end of 2023.
