BURLINGTON – Library Director Michael Wick is pleased to announce that the Friends of the Burlington Public Library and Burlington Mall have teamed up to host and organize materials for a small free library.
The new, small, free library is located at the grounds of the Burlington Mall, which built the library, and is filled with books donated by friends as part of the group’s ongoing efforts to foster a love of reading in the community while offering new life to elementary gifts. The small, free library is stocked with books for people of all ages.
The small, free library has been installed in the mall’s outdoor park and will complement the StoryWalk that organizations partnered to create earlier this year.
“The friends came to mind as a natural partner for this project when our colleagues at the mall came up with the idea to do it,” said Wick, “and we are grateful to the friends, as well as the center. Commercial Burlington, for their efforts to make this a reality and build on the success of StoryWalk.
Sheila Hennessy, Director of Marketing and Business Development, developed the idea and worked with Friends to make it a reality.
“We’re excited to offer Burlington residents a bigger and better mall with a whole new era of shopping, socializing and dining,” said Hennessy. The community is welcome to pick up a book or share a book from the small free library located in the new outdoor green space, Le Parc. The partnership with the Burlington Public Library and the Friends of the Burlington Public Library is integral of our family programming and we are delighted to promote reading in the community.
The new mall facility is one of five small free libraries registered in Burlington, and residents can find the other four on the organization’s online map by clicking here. People are encouraged to pick up a book and pass it on to a friend when they are finished.
“The Friends of the Burlington Public Library are delighted to continue our community partnership with the Burlington Mall by maintaining the park’s small free library. Said Virginia Churchill Shahid, president of the Friends of the Burlington Public Library. “We’re especially happy to support a cause close to our hearts, reducing, reusing and reusing – in this case, donated books.”
