How model Kara Del Toro built a multifaceted career

Actress and model Kara Del Toro knows full well what it means to be a triple threat. As well as being the face of numerous brands (including an international GUESS campaign alongside J. Balvin), she is only expanding her presence as an actress with several low-key projects in the works. Additionally, Del Toro has established itself in the crypto space. Proving that she has business acumen, she quickly capitalized on the NFT craze. Just before summer, the social media star revealed to Modern Luxury her favorite beauty tips, her secret to success and the next big fashion trends.

Let’s start by looking back. How did you get into modeling and what intrigued you to make it your career path?

I grew up in a small town in Texas. I was a very theatrical and spirited child and loved to play dress up and put on a show. I went to primary school with a little girl who was an actress. She was going back and forth to LA all the time, and it seemed so fun and glamorous. It was extremely rare in my small town, and it made me want to become an actress. As I got older, this desire slowly turned into a desire to become a model. I went to a local modeling school and signed with an agency in Houston. Now I can play dress up for a living.

You have modeled for major beauty and designer brands. In your entire career, is there a moment you are most proud of and why?

I am a big believer in the law of attraction and manifestation. The hardest times in my career were when I knew I was consciously manifesting each goal. I had Guess, Carl’s JR, YSL, VS and Harper’s Bazaar on my vision board before working with these brands. Now I have new goals that I can’t wait to manifest.

You have quite the social media following. Given that you have such a massive following on a daily basis, what is your top priority with the content you share with your followers?

I like to think about the type of content I like to see on social media. I am a big lover of fashion and beauty. I’ve always loved glamour, hair, makeup and the whole prep process. On my TikTok, I focus more on this type of content. On Instagram, I have a more “aesthetic” vibe. I really enjoy creative direction and control of my image, including hair, makeup and styling, as I haven’t always had control of that in the modeling world. I regained control thanks to social networks.

We hear you have some upcoming acting projects. What excites you the most?

I recently started taking acting lessons and had my very first audition a few weeks ago. I booked a game and it was super exciting! We shot the film in Mexico. I can’t talk too much about it until it comes out, so you’ll just have to wait and see.

You are also involved in the crypto space. Can you tell us how your NFT project came to fruition?

When I first heard about NFTs, I was super fascinated. Clubhouse is what really attracted me. I was connecting to Clubhouse discussions and loving the community involved in the NFT space. I wanted to use my NFT as a fun way to do some creative direction and produce a piece of art that I could give a collector access to.

How does it feel to be the first model to hit and sell an NFT of themselves?

It was so much fun for me! It’s crazy how exponentially the world of technology is developing. It is inevitable that we will move in this direction.

We are finally entering the hottest months of the year! What’s your favorite summer beauty look?

I love using creams during the summer months. I love a good cream bronzer, cream blush and lots of highlighter. Fake freckles are also great fun for the summer.

And on the fashion side, what will be the “it-look” of the summer?

I have a feeling we’re going to see a lot of pastels, cutouts and throwbacks to the 70s and 90s, especially psychedelic 70s prints and 90s low rise jeans.
