NEGAUNEE – A pair of one-inning games and two more decided by just two innings kicked off the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.
Class B have had three of those close games, including Venice / Hickey’s slip past Globe Printing 16-15. Winners’ Karlie Kargela made it through the circuit, as did Globe’s Cassidy Krueger.
Also in “B” Jack’s Teepee topped Quality Car Care 12-10. Jack’s Stephanie Stocking went 4 for 4 while Jordann Grigg hit a home run.
Amy Young of QCC had a pair of triples while Gina Debelak got 3 for 3.
Signs Unlimited just passed Dave’s 11-9 collision. Signs’s Sandy Carlson was 4-for-4 while teammate Becky Gauthier was cited for her excellent defense. Dave’s Libbie Doney hit a triple.
Steph Abata was 3 for 3 with a brace to lead Jasper Ridge Brewery to a 7-4 win over 906 Sports Bar, where Thalicia DellAngelo got 2 for 3.
And Pasquali overtook Martin Sports 18-9. Winners’ Jess Geist was 5 for 5 and Alana Nuorala 4 for 5 with a double, while Martin’s Bethany Firby was 3 for 4 with a double.
In Class A, Kenzie Karki pulled off the rescue capture at center field as Buster took a 15-14 victory over Tino. Also for Buster’s, Ally Solander and MyKenna Kontio each tripled while Payton Drew was credited with a double play.
Tino’s Kassy Carlson had 3 for 4 and Miranda Roose 2 for 3.
Also in “A,” Heritage Glove Repair has dropped Buck’s Party Store 16-1. Winners’ Chelsie Katalin and Cassy Sandberg were 3 to 3, while Buck’s Shannon Clemo finished 2 for 2 and Sara Polini doubled.
Projected image / Venice 2 had a bye.
In Class C, Emma Currie was credited with excellent defense and Lindsey Williams tripled as Willey’s Tire Shop took a 15-10 victory over Palomaki Family Chiropractic, of which Mallory Schank had two hits.
Also in “VS”, Pineshears passed UP Fabricating 20-11. Winners Livvie Wood went 3 for 4 with a home run and a triple, while Jillian Robinson and Katrina Brown each finished 4 for 4 with Robinson including a pair of doubles.
UPF’s Val Prusi was 3 for 4 with a homerun while Renee Caya was 4 for 4.
And the Eagles beat Paradise Bar 22-7. The Eagles’ Micailly Carlson was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles and Ecko Popps 3 for 4 with a brace to support winning pitcher Elaina Treloar.
Rachel Hytinen of Paradise was 4 for 4 with a pair of doubles.
