The first season of the genre-defying HBO Max series “Made for Love” premiered on April 1, kicking off the eight-episode dystopian comedy about the growing intrusion of technology into the most important aspects. intimate with our personal life. From the novel of the same name by Alissa nutting, “Made for Love” chronicles the fallout from tech mogul Byron Gogol (Billy Magnussen) secretly implanting a chip in his wife Hazel’s (Cristin Milioti) brain. Milioti and Magnussen direct “Made for Love” as an unhappy married couple. The duo have collaborated on a number of projects over the past 10 years, including the “Black Mirror” episode “USS Callister,” which was nominated for seven Emmy Awards, winning four including Best TV Movie. Both Milioti and Magnussen are Tony nominated – Milioti for his lead role in the musical “Once” and Magnussen for his starring role in the play “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike”. While neither has won Emmy nominations in the past, Milioti is competing this year in comedic comedy and Magnussen in supporting comedy.

Nutting novelist writes and co-executive producer of the series with showrunner Christina lee. In addition to “Made for Love”, Nutting is credited with the original story of Hulu’s recent thriller “False Positive” starring Ilana Glazer. As a writer and producer, Lee also worked on another HBO Max comedy series “Search Party”.

Stephanie Laing directed six of the eight episodes of the first season, including the pilot and the season finale. Laing has seven Emmy nominations and two wins as a producer on “Tracey Takes On …” and executive producer on “Veep.” More recently, she is an executive producer and directs “Physical” on Apple TV +.
