The Florida Panthers have won the 2023 All-Star Game, while the Boston Bruins will host the 2023 Winter Classic at Fenway Park, confirmed Gary Bettman. The NHL Commissioner, accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly, spoke to the media Friday ahead of the All-Star Weekend skills competition.

Additionally, Bettman said the NHL World Series, which returns next season, will host games in Germany, Switzerland, Finland and the Czech Republic. Regarding the 2022 NHL Draft, the commissioner said Friday that the plan is still to hold it in Montreal, but that the league may review its options if the city’s COVID-19 restrictions are not met. relaxed by then. The NHL may also allow Canadian teams to play elsewhere, allowing fans if current restrictions continue.

Along those lines, Bettman admitted the league is fortunate to have the three-week break, previously incorporated into the Winter Olympics schedule, to catch up on games that had to be postponed due to COVID-19. A total of 105 matches had to be rescheduled.

“I don’t know how we could have finished the season rationally (without the break),” Bettman said.

Bettman also addressed the Arizona Coyotes’ situation regarding Gila River Arena and potential options for the team moving forward. The Coyotes discussed with Arizona State a plan that would allow them to temporarily share the school’s new multipurpose arena for home games. Bettman said it would not affect the league’s revenue sharing and that he was committed to the market.

“It won’t be two weeks, but it won’t be two years,” Bettman said. “If there is no construction prospect. Then we will have to focus with the property on what makes sense.”

Separately, the league also hopes to hold the World Cup of Hockey in Milan, Italy, Daly said, sometime before the 2026 Olympics. Athleticism reported that it was “strongly possible” that the 2024 event would be held in February.
