MONTGOMERY — The Alabama Governor’s Committee on Disability Employment invites nominations for its annual statewide awards, which recognize the contributions and successes of people with disabilities and businesses that provide people with with disabilities opportunities to succeed through competitive and inclusive employment.

Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said she looks forward to hearing more stories from those who have benefited from these opportunities.

“As always, it’s important to recognize the accomplishments of our hard-working Alabamians — especially those with disabilities,” she said. “Not only have these individuals overcome their own challenges, but they have excelled in their line of work and made major contributions to their industries. I am proud of our business communities for their dedication to being inclusive environments and helping people with disabilities reach their full potential. We look forward to reviewing all applications that will be sent.

This year, the awards ceremony will take place in person at the Alabama State Workforce Conference September 7-9 at the Hyatt in Birmingham (formerly the Wynfrey).

Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services Commissioner Jane Elizabeth Burdeshaw said she knows there are many success stories in Alabama and

“By naming successful consumers and employers you know, you help others realize how great an asset people with disabilities are to growing Alabama’s economy,” she said. “The recipients truly represent the blueprint for our department and our mission: to enable Alabama’s children and adults with disabilities to reach their full potential.”

The Alabama Governor’s Committee is seeking nominations for the following awards:

• Employee of the Year – Large Company

• Employee of the Year – Small Business

• Employer of the Year – Large Business

• Employer of the Year – Small Business

• Public Service Award

• Student of the Year Award

The deadline for submitting applications is no later than July 15 at 5 p.m.
