Joe Palmer had 24 points and 10 rebounds and Augsburg used a big second half to beat Sainte-Scholastique 83-68 in MIAC men’s basketball on Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, before 172 in Minneapolis.
Rayquan Moore scored 15 points off the bench and Jack Sorenson scored 11 points for the Auggies (4-1 overall, 3-0 MIAC), who outscored CSS 42-30 in the second half to move away from a lead 41-38 at halftime. .
Canyon’s Nick Carlson (20 points), Jack Silgen (16) and Duluth East graduate Isiah Hendrickson (12) scored in double digits for the Saints (1-3, 0-2), who were outscored by 47, 6% to 42.4% and have 17 turnovers.
CSS will look for the first victory in the MIAC program at 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, when the Saints host St. Mary’s at the Reif Gymnasium.
Jen Masello scored 23 points while filling out the stats sheet and Augsburg took a 30-7 first quarter lead en route to an 82-55 victory in the MIAC women’s action before 82 at the Reif Gymnasium.
Masello finished with 10 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocks while Anja Smith added 18 and five rebounds off the bench for the Auggies (3-3 overall, 3-0 MIAC).
Augsburg had a 46-26 advantage in paint points, an 18-4 advantage in quick break points and forced 23 turnovers as the Auggies have won the last nine meetings with the Saints.
Miranda Broberg was the only double-digit player with 13 points for CSS (0-5, 0-3) and has now scored in double digits in each of the first five games.
The Saints continue MIAC action at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, when they host St. Mary’s.
