September is the new January. Join our Declutter Challenge ready for the upcoming season

As seasons change, schools return and we introduce a new Prime Minister, September is a time to welcome new beginnings. This fall, we’re encouraging people around the world to take up our Decluttering Challenge by donating favorite items and helping fund life-saving research.

We want people to take advantage of this time of year to clean their homes and donate any unwanted quality items. Donating to us is free and easy: simply drop items off at your local store, book a collection online, or mail them in using a free label.

The Declutter Challenge is supported by decluttering professional Kate Ibbotson.

“September is often a time of year to reflect, look back on summer with fond memories. But it’s also a month of welcome change, a chance to reset and look ahead. for the rest of the year,” Kate said.

“We’re swapping out our summer clothes for a cozy winter wardrobe and sorting through any clutter that may have accumulated over the sunnier months.”

Kate recommends setting yourself a plan of action and focusing on confined spaces rather than the whole house. “Trying to declutter your entire home can be daunting, so start with small pieces like a cabinet or a shelf. Ask yourself, do I need this, do I have something similar, is it suitable? for my use and can someone else make better use of it? That’s the magic of decluttering!

Allison Swaine-Hughes, Retail Director, said, “Why wait until January to declutter? This month, we want everyone to have a good exit from their home and donate those quality items to BHF that deserve a second home. Charity shops are the perfect sustainable solution for decluttering and the BHF saves over 57,000 tons of goods from going to waste. Plus, all money raised helps us fund vital research into heart and circulatory disease.

“It’s easy to make a donation to us. You can drop off your donations at one of our 700 stores, post your items using a free downloadable tag, or for larger items like furniture, you can book a free pickup.
