The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge #10 in Sonora is hosting and sponsoring an art contest for the winner to paint a new mural along the wall of the lodge building in downtown Sonora.
The IOOF is a non-political and non-sectarian international fraternal order of Odd Fellows. Lodge #10 is located at 10 W. Dodge St., Sonora, in downtown, and has released information indicating that it is looking to add color to the white wall outside its building.
Lodge members created the Art Contest where Columbia Junior College students and high school students from Tuolumne County can submit their best mural idea for a chance to paint their entrance for the Lodge.
The submission deadline is March 15 and winners will be chosen by a jury on April 1, followed by an awards reception on April 9 at 7 p.m. First place winners will not only be able to paint their artwork on the lodge for the entire community. to see, but they will also receive $1,000 in increments of $500, the first half when the winners are announced and the second half after the mural is completed. Second place will receive $300 and third place will win $100.
All submissions may be submitted in digital or printed format, entries may also be mailed to IOOF Sonora Lodge #10 10 W. Dodge St., Sonora, CA 95370 or emailed to [email protected] Also include your name and contact information with the entry.
Remember, the contest is open to all Columbia Junior College students and high school students in Tuolumne County.
Design details should show some aspect of Tuolumne County history and preferably IOOF’s contribution to the community. The size of the mural will be 12 feet high by 40 feet wide and will be painted on four foot by eight foot sheets of plywood. The design can be in color, tones or black and white, and all materials and paint needed to complete the mural will be provided by the lodge.
