Students return to top of Clemson declamation contest

The format changed, but the results remained the same, with local students dominating the Clemson University Poetry Declamation Contest.

The Clemson University Department of Foreign Languages Poetry Declamation Contest gives students the opportunity to sing poetry in their language of study and receive commentary from leading language teachers. Participants perform two poems from memory, specified according to the students’ level of study of the language. They are rated based on pronunciation, text interpretation, smoothness of delivery, and texture accuracy.

After last year’s edition was canceled due to COVID-19, the competition returned this year to an online format. This year’s competition drew students from across Georgia and South Carolina.

Local students from four high schools and one middle school took part in the competition, including 22 first, 19 second and 16 third.
