Murray state Brown Tevin was named Player of the Week for the second week in a row after a vote by the Ohio Valley Conference Directors of Communications.
A junior from Fairhope, Ala., Brown won the OVC honor after a masterful performance in Murray State’s 87-76 victory over Chattanooga on Saturday. Brown scored a career-high 33 points, scoring 11 of 22 field goals (including 7 of 14 3-pointers) and added nine rebounds, two steals, two assists and one block in 38 minutes. It was the 17th time in his career that he had hit five or more 3-pointers in a game and he increased his career to 288 points overall (fourth in OVC history).
Four of Brown’s 3 points came in the second half as MSU overcame a three point deficit at halftime. His 3 points with 9:32 remaining gave the Racers the lead in earnest as the team ended the game 30-18.
Brown opened the week with 10 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and a block in a resounding victory over Tennessee Wesleyan.
For the week, Brown averaged 21.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.0 blocks / game while hitting 43.8% (14 of 32) on the terrain, 40.9% (9 out of 22) out of 3 points. and 6 of 6 at the free throw line. Brown ranks 11th nationally for 3 points scored / game (3.64) and 35th for 3-point percentage (44.4%); he is also the top scorer in the OVC (18.9 points / game), fifth for free throw percentage (77.8%), seventh for assists (3.6 / game) and ninth for interceptions (1.4 / game).
The Racers have been honored with four OVC Player of the Week awards this season. Brown’s teammate KJ Williams has also won the award twice. Brown is the first runner to win the honor in consecutive weeks since Ja Morant won three in a row in 2019.
The Racers are on the road Wednesday for their final non-conference game when they face 12e rated Auburn Tigers at Auburn Arena in Alabama. Runners selected for two home games on ESPNU
Murray State Men’s Basketball is hosting a pair of televised home games on ESPNU, as announced by the Ohio Valley Conference for the 2021-22 season. The runners will appear on ESPNU (February 17) when they greet the Austin Peay Governors at the CFSB Center in a 6 p.m. tip. Game 2 is at home (Feb. 24) against the Belmont Bruins in an 8 p.m. prediction. The Racers’ two televised games are on Thursday night. The OVC program has a total of nine televised men’s basketball games in total (six regular season competitions and three OVC tournament games) which will be broadcast by one of the ESPN networks during the 2021-22 season. This includes three nights of coverage from the OVC Tournament (March 4-5 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana).
