Veteran finds Spunktacular Days medallion before contest begins

AVON – A St. Cloud veteran accidentally stumbles upon the gold medallion Avon is hiding for his Annual Spunktacular Days even before the start of the competition.

Dan Becker said he was playing with his dog at Spunk Beach earlier this week when the dog’s toy rolled under a safety railing. When Becker went to look for the toy, he found the locket hidden under the railing.

“I have to be honest with you, when I found it I thought, ‘This can’t be right’ because I never made anything in my life,” Becker said. “I had the worst luck ever, I mean I got disabled in the military, so I had this problem, then I had a brain tumor, I had this problem . You can’t be luckier than me. “

This year’s Spunktacular Days medallion hunt is slated to begin on Tuesday and end on Friday, June 18, with city officials releasing a new clue every day. Becker has since returned the locket to the city and received a cash prize of $ 100. City officials plan to hide the locket again and write new clues for the hunt next week, and the next winner will receive $ 100 room to spend at local businesses.
