Women’s basketball quits Big 5 contest in St. Joe’s, 73-63


PHILADELPHIA – The Temple women’s basketball team (5-4, 0-0 AAC) lost a home game to Saint Joseph’s (4-6, 0-0 Atlantic 10) on Saturday afternoon, losing 73 -63. The loss ends the Owls’ three-game winning streak. The Owls led by one with just over three minutes left in the first half, but an 8-0 streak gave the Hawks a seven-point lead early in the second half. The Owls fought in the second half to gain the advantage but were unable to do so.

> Jasha clinton: team record 24 points out of 10-15 shots. Led the team with five assists and four steals.
> Mia davis: 18 points on 6-10 shots from the ground. Led the team with nine rebounds.

First district: Temple 10, Saint-Joseph 17
> The Hawks opened the game 13-4 in the first seven minutes.
> Buckets by Emani mayo, Davis and Clinton finished the first quarter to help the Owls beat the Hawks to reduce the deficit.

Second district: Temple 25, Saint-Joseph 32
> The Owls opened the second period on a 12-4 streak to take their first lead of the game. A three-point basket from Clinton as well as seven points from Mayo helped close the gap.
> Three changes of lead over the next few minutes gave the Hawks the lead with two minutes to go.
> Saint Joseph’s finished the quarter 8-0 to end the period and take a seven-point lead before the break.

Third district: Temple 41, Saint Joseph 49
> A three-point shot from SJU’s Katie Jekot increased the lead to 10, but the Owls responded with a 5-0 streak to reduce the deficit soon after.
> Five straight points from Davis kept the Owls at striking distance, but TU failed to get enough saves to take the lead.
> The Hawks finished the quarter 5-0 to take an eight-point lead heading into the final period.

Fourth district: Temple 63, Saint Joseph 73
> Both teams ‘three points kept the Hawks’ advantage down to eight early in the fourth quarter.
> Davis Buckets and Alexa williamson gained some momentum for the Owls, but TU was unable to capitalize as St. Joe’s kept the Owls at bay for the remainder of the competition.

> The Cherry & White travels to the Midwest to face the Northwestern Wildcats on December 17th at 8:00 pm.
